Upper Eyelid Lift
The eyelid skin can change with time, resulting in excessive hooding, sagginess, and the accumulation of bulging eyelid fat. Blepharoplasty surgery is designed to lift your eyelids and remove excess fat that may be causing your eyelids to look more aged. There are many different options for eyelid surgery, ranging from a complex eyelid and brow lift to a more natural skin excision approach. Dr. Karamanoukian can help you identify which procedure is right for you.
Upper eyelid surgery removes excess skin and varied amounts of periorbital fat; depending on patient specifics and genetics. Some patients have excessive amounts of fat in the eyelids whereas others have more loose skin than fat. Eyelid surgery does more than brighten the eyes, it lends an excellent platform for full facial rejuvenation. The upper eyelids are an important cosmetic unit in the upper face.
Recovery after eyelid surgery depends largely on the extent of the procedure. Eyelid blepharoplasty is a less invasive procedure when compared to a facelift or necklift; so the recovery period is self-limited. The incisions require sutures that do need to be removed within one week of surgery. Pain is minimal, but there is a five day period of bruising and swelling that is evident but can be covered with sunglasses.
Lower Eyelid Lift
Among the many different types of procedures available to rejuvenate the face, a lower eyelid blepharoplasty remains gold standard for its efficiency, efficacy, and excellent long-term results. A lower eyelid surgery can remove excess skin and fat from the lower eyelids, reduce the prominence of the tear trough, and improve the contour of the cheeks. Dr. raffy Karamanoukian at Kare Beirut plastic surgery is among the top leaders in oculoplastic treatments of the lower eyelid. He is a double board-certified plastic surgeon and a fellow of the American College of surgeons. Dr. Karamanoukian has written extensively four major national organizations and has lectured prominently on his approach to facial rejuvenation.
As a surgeon, researcher, and author of many publications, Dr. Karamanoukian has a unique and meticulous approach to lower eyelid rejuvenation. Although facial fillers can be used to improve the lower eyelid appearance, blepharoplasty remains a gold standard that is unmatched and its long-term results. Dr. Karamanoukian often performs lower eyelid blepharoplasty in conjunction with his exclusive foxtail eyelid lift to rejuvenate the upper and lower eyes.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can be performed under anesthesia to remove excess bags of fat in the lower eyelids, to reduce the prominence of the tear trough deformity along the nasal bridge, to improve cheek contour, and reduce the hollowness of the lower eyelid orbital rim. Once your consultation is complete, Dr. Karamanoukian will process your candidacy for his eyelid rejuvenation procedure and optimize your results with a maintenance protocol that may include lasers or fractional RF. Very difficult to isolate the lower eyelids as a rejuvenation procedure without examining the entire face and determining whether complementary treatment such as dermal fillers, Botox, wrinkle removal lasers, and skin resurfacing may be appropriate.
Options for lower eyelid blepharoplasty include a trans conjunctival approach with minimal skin excision, a pinch excision of the lower eyelids, and a full lower eyelid blepharoplasty with removal of excess skin and fat . These options are all available in our center and we recommend a full consultation with examination to evaluate your needs and desired goals.
How are the scars after eyelid surgery? Most eyelid lift or blepharoplasty scars are minimal, well-hidden and discrete. Dr. Karamanoukian will make every effort to reduce scarring in your case. For the upper blepharoplasty surgery, an incision is usually made in the natural tarsal fold of the eyelid. This placement hides the scars very well, even when the eyelids are closed. It may take several months for these scars to fade. For the lower eyelid lift, Dr. Karamanoukian prefers either the scarless transconjunctival approach or the subciliary incision underneath the lower eyelashes. Healing and scar management is usually simplified with gentle scar massage, application of Sequel Scar Serum twice daily, and several rounds of a fractional laser, if needed. Scars tend to fade completely within the first few months after surgery. In any case, Dr. Karamanoukian can help you achieve outstanding results with blepharoplasty.
What type of anesthesia is used for blepharoplasty surgery? Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can be performed using different types of anesthesia depending on patient and surgeon preference. Dr. Karamanoukian will discuss options with you during your consultation, but these generally include local anesthesia alone, local anesthesia with iv sedation, or general anesthesia. In all cases, Dr. Karamanoukian will administer local anesthesia into the eyelid skin in order to reduce surgical bleeding and post-treatment bruising. This local anesthesia can be used alone for an eyelid lift, or can be used in combination with light iv sedation or deeper general anesthesia. Local anesthesia is used to numb the eyelid skin and allow for a more controlled surgical procedure. Some patients will require a deeper anesthesia as a preference, and this can be arranged preoperatively with Dr. Karamanoukian and his team. Most cases will be performed under local anesthesia alone, especially in the case of a Foxtail Eyelid Lift.

Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are an excellent option for patients who want a non-surgical Treatment before they undergo surgery. we often employ hyaluronic acid fillers to help with cheek contour, tear trough hollowness, orbital rim atrophy, and looseness of the eyelid skin. Patients with excess swelling or residual hyaluronic acid filler's that were improperly placed may opt for a combination protocol that can tighten the skin and fill in areas of wholeness in the upper face. We often combine this with Botox injections to reduce wrinkles around the eyes and nose.
